Drape it with all the gaudy academic frippery you want-- call it metaphor, cathartic, claim it's on multiple levels you can't be bothered to define, call it dreamscape, a channel for the release of healing righteous anger--and it's still obscenity that degrades all who tolerate it, and it's still about killing cops. A lot of people who see this movie aren't capable of swathing it in philosophist abstraction--to them it will always be about killing cops, and loving every millisecond of it.

Let's not indulge in puerile fantasies. Violence is not cleansing. It's destructive and seductive and addictive. Start out praising the aestheticization of unreal mythic violence, and within minutes you're extolling threats of violence as an agent of change in South Africa, and declaring that political power grows from the barrel of a gun.

Violence is dumb when they have electronic brain scramblers and all we have is guns and swords. It's dumb when it's not necessary. Show a little imagination and see that between fearful passivity and rabies there's a third way that harms no living thing-- non-cooperation with, and obstruction and sabotage of, economic entities and processes. George Bush didn't need to invade Iraq. He could have brought Saddam to his knees by bombing power lines, bridges, railroads, and pipelines. He can do that from the air. From the ground we can foul things up royally not by destroying the machinery but simply unplugging it, spiking the keyhole, cutting the cable, blocking the highway, stealing the distributor cap, flattening (not slashing) the tires. The V mask means assassination and cop-killing, and the notion that we're going to bring the cops over to our side by marching around in mobs of forty people dressed in cop-killer costumes is ludicrous.

The potential for false-flag V-mask actions by agents provocateur is flippantly dismissed. There is no way of knowing who is behind those masks, and under those wigs and capes. All that's needed is a couple of V-goons to beat up Dennis Kucinich, ostensibly because he broke his promise to have 9/11 hearings, and the whole initiative will be completely discredited.

We saw all this before in the sixties. It didn't go anywhere worth going. If we're doing the right thing, obstruction and sabotage will make the change without masks, and nobody hurt.

A great man invoked an old saying to make a point about guns: When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.snug.bughttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09412792156178127582noreply@blogger.com
