The third Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America Summit Meeting is scheduled for August 20 and 21 in Montebello, Quebec, at the Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello Resort.
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is scheduled to host the Quebec summit which Mexican President Felipe Calderon and U.S. President George W. Bush are planning to attend.
In a news conference announcing the SPP summit, Harper issued a statement claiming that, “We share a continent with the United States and Mexico, and our people, our economies and our security are closely interconnected.”
Integration of the three countries violates their constitutions and is opposed by citizens who have heard of the corporate driven plans which bypass public awareness and approval. The mainstream media is failing to cover the issue.
In the first hour, our guest will be Connie Fogal,B.A., B.Ed., M.A., LL.B. Connie will be joining with a large coalition of Canadians Joining in Opposition to the SPP in Montebello, Quebec. Connie is a lawyer, teacher, writer, and politician. She was educated at University of Saskatchewan, University of Toronto, and University of British Columbia.
She was born in 1940 in Lafleche Saskand grew up in Saskatchewan. She has taught in Saskatoon, Regina, and Toronto public school systems and University of BC Centre for Continuing Education.
She was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1980 and has practiced law as a sole practitioner in criminal and family law. In the area of constitutional law, she spearheaded three lawsuits by citizens through the Canadian courts on constitutional issues:
Challenging the Multilateral Agreement on Investments (MAI),
Challenging the expropriation of Nanoose Bay by the Federal government to submit to the US military;
Challenging the erection of a fence to prevent protest against an FTAA meeting in Quebec City in 1998.
She is a widow, mother and grandmother, a descendant of grandparent prairie pioneers to Saskatchewan with roots from Ontario and Quebec. Her maternal grandfather was active in shaping the province of Saskatchewan under Tommy Douglas. She is a passionate defender of nationhood, sovereignty, and liberty. She is the leading opponent of the current unelected, unaccountable, unrepresentative military, corporate financial rule which has control of the nations of Canada, USA and Mexico and who exploit our human and natural resources leaving less and less for the public trust.
She is an articulate critic of the powerful forces who are actively destroying Canada's universal health care system, dismantling Canada's social programs and social safety system, restricting access to education, destroying family farms, stealing our energy and water, eliminating jobs, reducing our standard of living and generally impoverishing Canadians, all of which are directly due to international agreements, including the WTO, NAFTA and the Security and Prosperity Partnership Agreement (SPP).
Connie will be reporting from the front lines in Montebello where reports of possible violence against protesters by the police force is meant to discourage people from protesting, and challenging the corporate agenda.
Our next guest will be Professor Michel Chossudovsky, a Canadian professor of economics at the University of Ottawa. He has been an outspoken critic of the World Trade Organization, and Multinational Trade Agreements written of, by and for corporate interests that threaten people and planet. He authored- America's "War on Terrorism" in the wake of 9/11. He has taught as visiting professor at academic institutions in Western Europe, Latin America and Southeast Asia, has acted as economic adviser to governments of developing countries and has worked as a consultant for international organizations including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Development Bank, the United Nations African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (AIEDEP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the World Health Organisation (WHO), the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). In 1999, Chossudovsky joined the Transnational Foundation for Peace and Future Research as an adviser. Chossudovsky is past president of the Canadian Association of Latin American and Caribbean Studies. He is a member of research organisations that include the Committee on Monetary and Economic Reform (COMER), the Geopolitical Drug Watch (OGD) (Paris)and the International People's Health Council (IPHC).
In the second hour, our other guest will be Bev Collins president of the Canadian Action Party. She is a former businesswoman from Ottawa. She sold vacuum scientific equipment to different federal government departments and industry and eventually owned her own scientific company. Bev relocated to the Kootenays in 1991 and first became involved in politics running for the National Party of Canada in the 1993 federal election. In 1997, Bev joined the Canadian Action Party and has run in four federal elections for them, with 2 elections in the Kootenays and the last two elections in the Cariboo Prince George riding. Bev was elected to President of CAP in February 2007.
Bev is a writer, speaker and former radio show host/guest, and has traveled throughout North America talking about NAFTA, Quebec secession, and other federal issues.
The Canadian Action Party is a pro-Canadian party dedicated to the principle that Canada can best serve its citizens and the world by re-claiming and maintaining its political and economic sovereignty as an independent country.
It is opposed to the ascendancy of "corporate rule" and those aspects of unrestricted global investment that promote colonization of the world’s smaller powers and in Canada’s case its absorption by the United States of America.
